April

Only one entry this month! So what’s my excuse?

Well it has been a busy month. Our Toastmasters club has had four meetings this month instead of the usual two. All great fun, but as V.P.E. (Vice President Education) it is my job to plan each meeting, trying to ensure that everyone has a turn in each role and to print and send out the programmes before each meeting - as well as keeping track of everyone’s progress and points earned each meeting. I love doing it - (Where else do you get to tell everyone what to do?) but it does take up a lot of my time.

Oh yes, I also attended a debate held by another Toastmasters club and a Humorous Speech Workshop… I thought the most humorous part was when the five of set off in one car, and when the driver said, “So what’s the address of this place?” Not one of us had thought to bring the address with us.

At least, someone knew the name of the street. “I think it’s number 24,” said one. “I thought it was 270,” said another. “I think it’s in a church hall,” I said. It was, and we found it eventually.

It has been a busy month in our World Vision club, too. We held our Easter Street Stall just before Easter. We’ve also had our usual jumble sales, and because we’ve had more helpers lately, we had an extra book sale in the hall and two more stalls with books and plants down the street at the same time as the jumble sales.

And Birthdays! Everyone seems to have been born in April! We celebrated my nephew Robert’s ninth birthday with fish and chips at the beach. The kids had a wonderful time, playing cricket, climbing the cliffs, and flying kites. They don’t seem nearly as noisy out in the open.

On Easter Sunday, we went to Tin Can Bay (up past Gympie) for my Aunt’s 80th birthday party. It was another open air event and the weather was perfect. We sat under shady Gum Trees by the sea and caught up on relatives we hadn’t seen in ages. Some fellow came up and gave Mum a big hug. “I haven’t seen you in years,” he exclaimed.

“It’s lovely to see you again,” responded Mum, while her eyes frantically signalled to me, “Who is he?” I wish I’d been quick enough to get a photo. The expression on her face was priceless.

Today was Mum’s sister’s birthday and they came for lunch. That’s three Sundays in a row we’ve celebrated a birthday.

And last week I went with some friends to Caboolture for to surprise an old friend on her birthday.

I could go on - but it’s getting late again and I really want to get this up while it’s still April.

See you next month.
